Providing help and creating hope in Maine
Today, the Catholic Charities Maine family joins the world in mourning the passing of Pope Francis, a leader whose compassion and humility touched hearts, of all faiths, around the world.
It was always heartening to see how much of Pope Francis’ work aligned with the mission of Catholic Charities, and I drew personal strength knowing we had a spiritual leader who was also a true servant leader. Pope Francis’ life reflected Christ’s call to love one another, to advocate for justice, uplift the marginalized, and serve all with mercy and kindness.
His simple yet profound gestures, such as bowing his head to ask for prayers upon his inauguration, reflected his belief in the strength found in humility and shared humanity.
At Catholic Charities Maine, we recommit ourselves daily to serve the most vulnerable among us, and it is my hope and prayer that we honor his legacy by continuing to serve others with the same authenticity, humility, and grace that Pope Francis lived every day.
